How to Use AI to Write TikTok Captions That Actually Sound Like You
How to Use AI to Write TikTok Captions That Actually Sound Like You
One of the most common things Malaysian business owners say when they start using AI for their content is this: the captions sound too formal, too perfect, or just not like me at all. And they are right. If you paste a topic into an AI tool and ask it to write a caption, you will usually get something generic that could have come from any business in the world.
The good news is that AI can actually help you write great TikTok captions, as long as you know how to use it properly. The difference is not in the tool. It is in how you brief it.
1. Start With Your Own Voice First
Before you type anything into an AI tool, write two or three sentences in your own words about what the video is about. Do not worry about grammar or structure. Just write the way you would say it to a customer in real life. For example: this video is about how I pack my orders every morning before 8am, I want my customers to feel like they are part of the process, I usually joke around about how messy my table is. That rough note is your starting point. When you feed this kind of personal context into the AI, the output sounds much more like you.
2. Tell the AI Who You Are Talking To
AI tools write better captions when you tell them exactly who your audience is. Instead of just asking for a TikTok caption, say something like: write a TikTok caption for a Malaysian small business owner selling handmade cookies, speaking to young working adults in their 20s and 30s who care about supporting local brands. The more specific you are, the more relevant the caption will feel.
3. Give the AI a Tone to Work With
If your brand is warm and friendly, say that. If you like to add a bit of humour, mention it. If your audience responds better to straightforward helpful content without fluff, tell the AI that too. You can even paste an example of a caption you have written before and ask it to match that style. This one step alone makes a huge difference in how natural the output feels.
4. Always Edit Before You Post
AI captions are a starting point, not a final product. After you get the draft, read it out loud. If it does not sound like something you would actually say, change it. Swap out words that feel too stiff. Add in a phrase you use all the time. Put back the spelling or expressions that feel local to you. The goal is to use AI to save time on the first draft, not to replace your personality.
5. Use AI for Hashtag Research Too
Beyond captions, AI tools can help you brainstorm relevant hashtags for your content. Ask it to suggest hashtags that Malaysian TikTok users in your industry might search for, then cross-check them against what you actually see in your niche on TikTok. This saves time and often surfaces hashtag combinations you would not have thought of yourself.
At HyperGrowth, we teach this exact process in our AI for Business workshop because we believe AI should work for your brand, not make your content sound like everyone else. It is a tool, not a replacement for the real you.
